Resumen : | An essential requirement to fulfill the quality of the professional training demanded by contemporary societies is the mastering of English as the language for excellence for divulgation of science and technology, so that it results in competent professionals able to continue their training in an independent way. This article is aim to justify the relevance of the needs analysis made in the conception of a didactic strategy that is the result of a doctoral investigation. The whole process is described in this article. The strategy applies problem–based learning to the teaching of English for specific purposes in the context of computer sciences to develop communicative competence in academic and professional English. The method of investigation used was the needs analysis associated to groups interviews. The main formative deficiencies of the students of Computer sciences engineering career in English were identified. The alignment of learning objectives of the Global Scale of English and the deficiencies detected is relevant for the design of the strategy in agreement with the Politics for the improvement of the English training of Cuban Higher Education students. |
