Resumen : With the new policy of the English teaching–learning process implemented at the Ministry of Higher Education in Cuba in 2016–17 course, English is not included in the curriculum, although, as a graduation requisite, the student must certify an English basic level equivalent to A2 level. According to this policy, the students can attend to the courses offered by the university or take private courses, among other options. Due to these options, a reduction of students’ interest, motivation and participation in the courses was observed. To contribute to this problem solution at the University of the Informatics Sciences, different methods were used. As a result, 42 participating techniques, covering the content of the nine themes of the present Basic English Course I (equivalent to A1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), were created. Moreover, with the use of these techniques in the first term of 2019/20 course, an increase in the motivation, interest and participation was observed in three groups at the Educational Technology Faculty.
