Interaction of english for specific purposes–CEFR in a training course for researchers in artificial intelligence

Abstract

The interaction of the language center with the teaching learning process undoubtedly has different features mainly related to the pre–grade activities and learners’training, but it also influences on the postgrade development. As one of the main components of this training is possible to be based on the criteria of the Common European Frame of Reference for languages (CEFR) with its levels ad descriptors; it is also remarkable the task of the language center to influence on the professionals’preparation at this level. The present work describes the details of a specific training course, designed for a group of specialists and researchers, with very–well defined professional interests on the field of artificial intelligence. It is described the diagnosis process carried out with the trainees, their professional interests as the starting point for a required language training, as well as the course design, based on the content that supports the language level shown as a result of the diagnosis, in this case, B1– B1+, or intermediate. The work also emphasizes the potentialities of the language center in order to diversify and widen its services, at the time that it is possible to relate the essence of the CEFR with English for Specific Purposes.
